Temporary chats
What a temporary chat does
A temporary chat stays out of your history, your search results, your memory and your Library. It is never written to your conversation history, nothing said in it is remembered across conversations, files you attach do not land in your Library, and a connector asks before every call even where you saved "Always allow".
A connector call still reaches that service, and that service keeps its own record. Temporary is about what AGI keeps, not about what the outside world forgets.
What AGI does keep is narrow and bounded. No message of a temporary chat is written to your conversation history. The conversation record itself, including any research report and the log that lets an interrupted reply resume, and any file you attach, are held for up to 30 days and then removed, which is what keeps an in-flight chat working and an attachment readable while you are still in it. A legal hold placed on your workspace keeps that material past the 30 days until the hold is released. A rating you give in a temporary chat, with any reason or comment, is kept with your account after the chat is removed; it carries the chat and response IDs, never the response text.
Turning it on
The composer carries a Temporary chat control for the conversation you are in. To make every new conversation outside a project temporary, turn on "Start new chats as temporary" in Settings, Privacy.
Ending one
End temporary chat discards it. The confirmation states the consequence plainly: a temporary chat is never written to your history, so ending it is the end of it, every message goes on this device and any other, and nobody can reopen or restore it. Copy out anything you still need before you confirm.
What you cannot do with one
A temporary chat cannot be shared. The share control refuses with "A temporary chat cannot be shared. Turn off temporary chat to keep it, then share it." Turn the control off first, which starts saving the conversation, and then share it.
A temporary chat cannot be part of a project, so the composer does not offer Temporary chat inside one. A chat with a model on this device is always temporary, so it cannot be started inside a project. A chat you start inside a project is always saved to it, and when new chats would otherwise start temporary the composer says "Temporary chat isn't available in projects. This chat will be saved to the project."
